Has anyone on here heard of/played this? What are your all's views on it, and do you think it can go farther than modern?

It isn't going to beat vintage and it is not going to make it into standard, so I guess your question is: will it make it into EDH? It will have a much lower power level.
It could run in horde, but definitely not solo.

Sorry, but before I got into a legacy tournament, I ask myself: "Can I beat '1st turn Dark Depths, 2nd turn Dark Ritual to Vampire Hexmage, resulting in a Flying Indestructible 20/20 Marit Lage?'"

The answer is no, that deck isn't anywhere near fast enough to compete with that.

My Reanimator tops out at turn three and so will my Pauperexia (pauper black infect) once I add in Dark Rituals. There is a reason neither of them have ever gone into a legacy tourney, and that reason is Marit Lage. At least my Reanimator has a snowball's chance against her with Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Platinum Angel with the all-in-one-turn Dark_Ritual-Entomb-Animate_Dead/Reanimate combo.

I found this very interesting: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/developing-competitive-modern/221769-lantern-control

Against Dark Depths/Hexmage there are severeal 1st turn countermeasures like Pithing Needle or Thoughtseize available. It depends on your starting hand.

I personally do not play lantern control since me and my playgroup do not have fun when playing control decks. Once someone play a control deck, next game he is enemy#1 facing several land destruction / aggro decks against himself!-)
We do not play in competitions and the way is the goal... just having fun.
For multiplayer format I think lantern control is not powerful enough, since most cards have "target player" effects and not "each player/opponent".

Dammit, that's right, I forgot about pithing needle. I am good are goodest at reading!!!!

If it can stop it, hey I'd say it has a chance.

That seems fair. I'm working on a mono blue list that uses cunning wish to grab from my sideboard and metamorphose to try and maximize efficiency. Also, all mama bases tap for any color other than academy ruins in order to keep all options open. Looked like a fun challenge to build and play to me

Anything to really look out for, like laylines or something?

For mono blue?

Take a look at the decklists posted there http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/developing-competitive-modern/221769-lantern-control

Blue is not so much used in lantern control. Some blue cards are called suboptimal cards like Artificer’s Intuition, Trinket Mage, Counterbalance.
Consider Gitaxian Probe, Serum Visions, Dizzy Spell, Pact of Negation, Jace's Erasure, Psychic Surgery, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, ...

What about if I was going for a multicolored list with say meddling mage and enlightened tutor? Or a list that might be BU discard?

I'd recommend Nephalia Smuggler with Meddling Mage, as it lets you flicker it... that or Deadeye Navigator.
Then I'd say run things like Oblivion Ring or Exclusion Ritual. If you can flicker their creatures: Containment Priest.

Then try things like the Urza uncommons Scour, Quash, and Eradicate. Sever the bloodline would work as well.

Cranial Extraction and Surgical Extraction would serve you well, especially with an old school Hypnotic Scepter.

If you get enough mana or have a way to sneak it in, I'd suggest Decree of Silence along with Clockspinning.
