Shivan Dragon sitting in for:

If you can give the dragon lifelink with a colorless or blue source, you can shift this to modern by using Xenograft instead of Conspiracy.

With either Xenograft or Conspiracy, your two Spellskites count as dragons. With the Thunderbreak Regent, whenever a dragon you control gets targeted by an opponent, the Regent shoots that opponent.

With the full setup on the field, if your opponent casts ANY creature-target-capable spell, you can pay 2 life to redirect that spell to a Spellskite, causing the Regent to react. Since you gave it lifelink, you will gain back 3 life.

Repeat as many times as you like or your opponent can last, gaining 1 life per re-target.

Throw in Necrotic Ooze and Mistfolk. Then the spells can be redirected and countered, since TBR relies on targeting and not resolution.

If the whole setup is going, the spell will only resolve if you choose to let that opponent live. You can ping pong the spell back and forth between the skites, and each time it will trigger the dragon again, hitting your opponent for 3 damage and gaining you 1 life above what you had before each re-target.

Use basilisk collar instead to take a color out.
